One of the most critical factors – if not the most critical factor – to consider when purchasing a new electric vehicle is range. Arguably, this is more important than price, available incentives, DC fast charging performance, design, or even the fancy features that are on the options menu. If you’re looking for a battery-powered sedan that can go the distance, and drive farther on a single charge than probably any other EV available in the U.S. today, then this American EV is for you.
This sleek, downright sexy four-door car offers a huge range in a surprisingly spacious, well-engineered package. It features a gargantuan 117-kilowatt-hour battery pack that provides an EPA-estimated 512 miles of range on a full charge (when fitted with 19-inch Aero Range wheels; 20- and 21-inch rollers are optional). Theoretically, that’s enough to drive from the World Trade Center in New York City down to the White House in Washington D.C., and back again with few miles left to spare.
This sedan not only offers enormous range, but it DC fast charges at an incredibly quick rate, plus the interior is comfortable, and sprawl-out spacious thanks to the clever engineering of the car’s underlying structure.
In order to give you the most up-to-date and accurate information possible, the data used to compile this article was sourced from various manufacturer websites and other authoritative sources, including J.D. Power and the EPA.

Why The Lucid Air Is The Must-Have Electric Car Of The Decade
There is no dearth of EVs in the market, and if we were to pick one must-have EV of the decade, we’d choose the Lucid Air over everything else.
The Lucid Air Grand Touring Sets A New Standard for EV Range
512 Miles On A Full Charge
That 512 miles of range is absolutely incredible for a luxury EV, and the Lucid Air Grand Touring achieves that figure thanks to a few different factors. Yes, at 117-kWh this sedan’s battery pack is QUITE LARGE, but simply cramming more and more cells into a vehicle to get additional range is a crude – and expensive – solution. Fortunately, the Air has some exceptionally thoughtful engineering that helps it go the distance.
For starters, this car is extremely slippery. The body slices through the wind with a coefficient of drag of just 0.197. That makes this luxury four-door more aerodynamic than a Toyota Prius (0.270), Hyundai Ioniq 6 (0.220), Tesla Model S (0.208), or Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan (0.200). With less resistance, this car glides through the air, which helps deliver as much range as possible.
Engineering Excellence
In addition to the large size of its battery, and sleek styling, this Lucid sedan also incorporates some clever engineering. The pack, for instance, features a space-efficient 22-module design that incorporates a 924-volt power architecture for incredibly speedy DC fast charging, but more on this in a minute.
With a 116.5-inch wheelbase, engineers pushed this car’s axles outward to provide more interior space. Additionally, the front and rear drive units, each of which incorporates a potent electric motor, reduction gearing, a differential, and even the required power inverter, are small and light in weight. Reportedly, one of these units weighs just 163 pounds (74 kg).
All that smart engineering mentioned above – and more – provides huge amounts of interior space for both passengers and cargo. The Lucid Air has more than 22 cubic feet of space in its rear trunk and an additional 10 cubes in the front trunk (or frunk if you prefer portmanteaus) for a total of 32.1 cubic feet. As for passenger space, there’s a total of 98.7 cubes, with backseat riders being treated to 37.6 inches of legroom, and up to 38.3 inches of headroom. Folks in the front seats have even more space.

An Efficiency All-Star
Thanks to its inherently efficient design, the Lucid Air is also incredibly economical. The Grand Touring model fitted with 19-inch wheels is rated by the EPA at 126 miles per gallon equivalent city, 126 highway, and 128 MPGe combined. Drivers that opt for the available 20- or 21-inch wheels will sacrifice a little bit of efficiency, but the car is already so economical, the difference is practically a rounding error.
The base version of the Air, the rear-drive Pure model also with 19-inch wheels is even more efficient than the super-long-range Grand Touring trim. This variant is rated at 149 MPGe city, 142 highway, and 146 combined, absolutely incredible scores, even for an electric car.

DC Fast Charging Helps Enormously, Too
Of course, having 512 miles of maximum range is a tremendous asset when you’re on a long drive, but excellent DC fast charging performance is just as, if not more important, and the Air Grand Touring does not disappoint.
This particular model, and other high-end trims, tops out at a staggering 300 kilowatts, one of the best DC fast charging performances you’ll find from any EV available in the U.S. today. Lower-end versions of this Lucid sedan don’t charge quite as quickly, though. They should top out around 250 kW, which is still absolutely incredible.
Faster Charging = Less Waiting
That incredible performance allows the Grand Touring to absorb a whopping 200 miles of range in just 12 minutes when you tap into an appropriate 350-kW DC fast-charging cabinet. The faster an EV charges, the less time you have to sit around waiting to juice up when you’re on a road trip.
- The Lucid Air Grand Touring is engineered for rapid charging, ensuring drivers spend less time at stations.
- Ultra-Fast DC Charging: Can regain 300 miles of range in just 21 minutes using high-speed chargers.
- Home Charging Solutions: Level 2 home charging allows for overnight replenishment, making daily commutes effortless.
- The Lucid Air Grand Touring can take about 5 hours and 39 minutes to charge from 0 to 100-percent.
The Grand Touring model offers the most range of any Lucid Air model, but other trims are no slouches, either. The base Pure model can go up to 430 miles on a charge, which is still a fantastic performance. The higher-performance Touring trim is rated at 406 miles, and then there’s the explosively potent Sapphire model, which still offers an estimated 427 miles of range on a full charge, a damn-impressive figure.
Lucid Air Charging Options
- Lucid Mobile Charging Cable: Plug into a standard household outlet or a NEMA 14-50 socket.
- Lucid Connected Home Charging Station: An aftermarket charging station that can be purchased.
- Public charging stations: The Lucid Air’s Wunderbox boost charger can automatically recognize the car and adjust incoming voltage for the quickest charge.
Supercar Performance That Matches The Range
The Lucid Air offers incredible range and DC fast charging performance, but there is yet another feather in this car’s cap. The Air also delivers incredible acceleration.
The Grand Touring model has 819 horsepower and 885 pound-feet of torque. With standard all-wheel drive, those figures can propel the Air from a standstill to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds flat. The base Pure model has less than half the horsepower, yet it can still reach mile-a-minute velocity in a legitimately quick 4.5 seconds.
Few Things Glitter Like Sapphire
But if you’re really in a hurry, you
should consider the Air Sapphire
. This is the highest trim level Lucid offers, and it’s also the performance model in the lineup. This car is graced with a staggering 1,234 horses, which shoots this sizable sedan down the road like a bullet out of a high-powered rifle. The Grand Touring model is by no means slow, like, at all, but the mighty Sapphire blows its lesser sibling out of the water. This car can hit 60 mph in as little as 1.89 seconds, yes, less than 2 seconds!
Again, when not driving like a complete idiot, the Sapphire is also super efficient, if not quite as economical as the rear-drive Pure model. This roadgoing rocket ship is rated at 108 MPGe city, 101 highway, and 105 combined, far better efficiency scores than many mass-market EVs with one-fourth as much power or less.

Why The Lucid Air Grand Touring Stands Above The Competition
There are plenty of high-end electric vehicles available in the U.S. today, from the BMW i7 sedan to the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV to the Genesis Electrified G80 four-door. But the Lucid Air Grand Touring has everything it takes – and more – to compete with these rival EVs… and even beat them.
So, what does this car provide? Well, for starters, you get 34 inches of screen real estate on the dashboard, a bright and colorful panel that looks great and is quite intuitive to use. There’s also a retractable Pilot Panel screen lower on the center stack that handles additional vehicle functions. Wireless Apple CarPlay is standard, as is over-the-air software update capability, integrated turn-by-turn navigation, and a wireless charging pad. For drivers that want more, there’s even an available 21-inch Surreal Sound Pro audio system that should really rock.
The Interior Is Pure Luxury
The Lucid Air Grand Touring is a proper luxury car. This all-electric sedan includes 12-way power-adjustable and heated front seats at no extra charge. For $3,750 more, though, you can opt for 20-way adjustable front seats with ventilation and massage functionality.
The Air Grand Touring also comes standard with plenty of great equipment. The Comfort and Convenience package includes a heated steering wheel, power-operated front trunk, soft-close doors, four-zone climate control, heated rear seats, and even power-operated rear sunshades plus rear side shades.
There’s Plenty Driver-Assistance Tech, Too
When it comes to driver aids, the Air Grand Touring comes standard with active suspension damping with selectable drive modes, and all-wheel drive courtesy of two permanent-magnet electric motors. You also get DreamDrive Premium, Lucid’s suite of advanced driver assistance technology. This includes amenities like front and rear cross-traffic protection, blind spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, traffic sign recognition, over-the-air software updates, pedestrian detection, and much more.
For big spenders, DreamDrive Pro is available for $2,500 extra. This includes Highway Assist with adaptive cruise control as well as active lane centering and adaptive cruise control. All of this is enabled by a range of 32 on-board sensors.

Excellence Is Never Cheap
The Lucid Air Grand Touring is an excellent all-electric sedan, but like most good things in life, this car is not cheap. It goes for around $112,500 including $1,575 in destination and documentation fees ($110,900 MSRP), but before any potential discounts. Undeniably, that’s a lot of money, but at least you get a lot of cars for that outlay.
Shocker: The Base Pure Model Is A Better Value
Drivers who don’t want to spend quite that much money should consider the entry-level Pure model. With destination and documentation fees but without any potential discounts, this all-electric sedan starts at roughly $69,900.
