Volvo’s New EX30 Cross Country Debuts On February 10, 2025

Mid-Jan 2025, we shared some spy shots of what was believed to be an elevated, off-road-enhanced version of the Volvo EX30 all-electric SUV. The battery-powered vehicle in question was being driven in snowy northern Sweden. Now, on Monday, the safety-focused Swedish automaker has confirmed that it will indeed be revealing its new EX30 Cross Country model on February 10, just two weeks away.

Tantalizing members of automotive media and everyday drivers alike, Volvo made this vehicle announcement in a playful way. “Think you know what a car reveal looks like?” the press release starts. “Think again.” To showcase the new EX30 Cross Country, the automaker plans to livestream some sort of trip to Sweden’s Lapland, a rugged landscape in the Scandinavian country’s far north.

“From our cosy [sic] winter cabin, our experts and a special guest or two will introduce you to the Volvo EX30 Cross Country – a small car for big experiences – and explore how outdoors adventure can be accessible to anyone, in any part of the world,” the media release boasts. This strongly suggests that the Cross Country will have some sort of enhanced off-road capability.

What Do We Actually Know About The EX30 Cross Country?

Naturally, Volvo has not revealed any technical details about the new EX30 Cross Country, though we can make a few educated guesses about what this vehicle will offer. Based on the previously published spy photos, this EV will almost certainly benefit from a modest suspension lift of an inch or two to help improve off-road capability. Black plastic trim around the wheel openings in the fenders could help accentuate the elevated stance while also giving the vehicle a more rugged look.

Compared to the standard model, the Cross Country version of the EX30 will almost certainly have a few visual changes, too. Those spy shots reveal that the vehicle has a slightly different front end, one potentially adorned with black plastic accents on the lower fascia, and even a sort of topographical pattern embossed into the grille insert. Volvo has used this sort of pattern on plastic trim used in some of its vehicles.

This probably won’t be a standard amenity, but the EX30 spotted by spy photographers was also fitted with a rugged-looking roof rack, one that appears large enough to hold a veritable mountain of cargo.

Aside from what we can glean from photos, we know nothing about this vehicle’s drivetrain, though it will probably be identical to what comes in the conventional EX30. In the U.S., this includes a

twin-motor powertrain that delivers an impressive 422 horsepower
, enough for a 0-to-60 romp of just 3.4 seconds. Additionally, this model’s all-electric driving range is estimated by the EPA to be 253 miles on a full charge, which isn’t too shabby for a small, reasonably affordable EV, though the Cross Country’s range will almost certainly be a good bit shorter thanks to a taller ride height and likely meatier tires.
