All three South-Korean car brands are releasing new or updated products in LA this week. After the unveiling of the Hyundai IONIQ 9 ahead of the show last night, Genesis went ahead and pulled the drape off its updated GV70, which will go on sale next year as a 2026 model.
Still offered with the choice of an internal combustion engine (ICE), or in the form of a fully electric vehicle (EV), the GV70 gets a slew of important changes that should allow it to remain competitive in a rapidly changing segment. But it’s the Electrified EV version that gets the most important updates, clearly showcasing the carmaker’s priorities.

2026 Genesis GV70 Has The Same ICEs, But Gets New EV Running Gear
To be totally honest here, Genesis hasn’t done much to improve on what is already an excellent product. The 2026 GV70 carries over mostly unchanged from a mechanical standpoint. ICE models are still powered by a choice of two engines, the entry level one being a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder good for 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque.
More powerful versions will still be powered by the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 good for 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft. Both engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Contrary to the GV80 Coupe which inherited 48-volt mild hybrid assistance, the GV70’s powertrains remain unchanged.
But it’s the Electrified model that gets the most noteworthy mechanical upgrades. For starters, its battery gets a bump in capacity, from 77.4 to 84 kWh. Genesis hasn’t yet announced range figures for the updated setup, but we should expect a slight bump from the old model’s 238 miles on a single charge.
Hyundai’s luxury division also said nothing about output for the updated GV70 Electrified. There is, however, a new charge port designed to connect to Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS), allowing the 2026 GV70 Electrified to connect to Tesla’s Supercharger network of fast chargers.
Slightly Redesigned Front Fascia With Updated Onboard Technology
From a design standpoint, only a true Genesis connoisseur will notice the changes, but Genesis says it slightly redesigned the grille and headlights, offering unique looks for both ICE and EV models. The wheel designs are all new, and there’s a new Ceres Blue paint color for the ICE models.
Inside, the biggest update is the all-new 27-inch OLED tablet taken straight out of the recently updated GV80. It replaces the old model’s analog gauges and integrates everything into a single layout, which houses both instrumentation and the infotainment system. This system also allows for over-the-air (OTA) updates. Genesis says that the updated GV70 lineup will hit U.S. and Canadian dealers towards the first half of 2025. More details will be available closer to launch.
