Jeep Unveils Limited Edition Wrangler 4xe Backcountry

Jeep has unveiled a limited-edition version of the 2025 Wrangler 4xe, one that offers additional refinement and “new standard comfort features” for its North American customers.

Limited to just 5,800 examples across North America, the plug-in hybrid Wrangler 4xe Backcountry is based on the more refined Wrangler 4xe Sahara, and as such will be available with four doors only.

What The Backcountry Will Cost

Prices for the limited-edition Wrangler 4xe Backcountry start from $64,290, just a hair under $4,700 more than the Sahara. This slots the Backcountry neatly above the more rugged, $63,290 Rubicon. A destination fee of $1,895 will be included on top of the MSRP.

Exterior And Interior Changes To The Backcountry

Steel bumpers front and rear, new rock rails, a front grille guard, and what Jeep’s parent company Stellantis terms more “aggressive” 32-inch General Grabber A/T tires are the exterior highlights, suggesting the suitably-named Backcountry has been developed with a degree of superior off-road capabilities in-mind over the Sahara. The new tires adorn 20-inch wheels that feature an exclusive finish and, in a neat touch, light blue decals on the center caps.

Further cosmetic additions on the Backcountry include “unique” decals – i.e. a topographic map – on the hood, fender, and rear swing door. No exclusive exterior paints have been specified over those available for the Sahara, though a three-piece body-color hardtop can be optioned.

Unsurprisingly, most new additions for the refined Backcountry are in the cabin, which features a nine-speaker Alpine audio system, a front TrailCam, and a GPS navigation as standard. Up to 62 ‘Jeep Badge of Honour’ trail guides will be available through the system (and the onboard 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen) courtesy of Trails Offroad, complete with difficulty ratings, waypoints, and route descriptions. More than 3,000 trail guides are available with a premium subscription to the Trails Offroad service.

Plug-In Hybrid Drivetrain Remains

Drivetrain options for the Backcountry remain unchanged. Like its 4xe forebears, the limited-edition model features a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four that, mated with two electric motors, produces a combined 375 horsepower and 470 LB-FT of torque. Power is sent to all corners – as part of the Sahara’s full-time four-wheel drive setup – via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Backcountry Specifications

Up to 22 miles of all-electric range and/or silent rock crawling is also available via the 17.3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The Backcountry joins the Sport S, Willys, Sahara, Rubicon, Rubicon X, and High Altitude as the seventh member of Jeep’s Wrangler 4xe line-up.
