According to Kelley Blue Book, a base model 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid has a fair purchase price of $24,823, putting its used price tag slightly under what it cost when it was brand new. Ford’s compact pickup truck follows the same trend the Detroit-based brand’s other trucks, losing a small amount of its value but hardly anything compared to other vehicles released last year.

The Ford Maverick hasn’t gone through a major refresh for the 2025 model year, but there are still some pretty significant changes that could sway your decision whether to buy a used 2024 model or one fresh out of the showroom. Regarding the gas-only trims, the mid-spec Lobo trim is a new addition to the lineup, which features the same 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine as seen in the rest of the non-hybrid lineup. Unfortunately, a hybrid powertrain isn’t available for the Lobo.

However, for the trims that carry over into 2025, an all-wheel-drive driveline is now available, which focuses on increasing the towing capacity to 4,000 pounds (with the 4K towing package also equipped), compared to last year’s 2,000-pound limit. Performance remains the same no matter what driveline you choose, with independent testing seeing the Maverick Hybrid go from 0 to 60 MPH in 7.7 seconds.

Aside from the mechanical updates, the 2025 Maverick receives noticeable updates inside and out. Starting with the former, you get a larger 13.2-inch center touchscreen that replaces the outgoing 8-inch screen in the 2024 model, also including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Overall, the 2024 Ford Maverick has been recalled a notable eight times by the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration. Its most recent recall came in October for a potential loss of drive power that could lead to a crash, affecting 8,727 models. Another recall in late August was due to the windshield wipers not working, which affected a massive 86,852 models in total. In-car electronics and body hardware are generally the 2024 Ford Maverick’s main problem areas, which was the same story with the 2023 model that also happened to be recalled eight different times.

In terms of safety, the early release 2025 model of the Maverick Hybrid scored 4 out of five stars in crash tests conducted by the NHSTA for both the front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive models. As it has been since Ford introduced the compact pickup truck in 2021, the Maverick has no direct hybrid rivals. While it does mean that the segment isn’t quite as exciting as others, it does make the Maverick all the more attractive. Looking at the gas-only rivals, however, the Hyundai Santa Cruz manages to put up a solid fight.

According to Kelley Blue Book, the average used price of a 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz is $26,846. While this is a decent amount more than the Maverick, the Hyundai had a starting MSRP of $28,295. In terms of power, the 2024 Santa Cruz produces 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque, which is very close to the Maverick’s output in its hybrid guise. The Hyundai does manage to reach 60 MPH in a quicker 6.6 seconds, but with a combined MPG of 23 MPG, a used Ford Maverick would cost a great deal less to run over long-term ownership.
