While the Lucid Air luxury sedan was a testament to what this new, California-based electric vehicle (EV) startup was capable of from a technological standpoint, it was never intended to be the car that would keep Lucid Motors afloat financially. What Lucid needs to remain alive in this constantly changing industry are mainstream models that cater more to the needs of today’s car buyers.
Yes, Lucid plans to do like Tesla by slowly going down market in order to, eventually, sell more affordable models. But until it gets there, it needs a second vehicle that’s still rated as a premium one, but that’ll rake in more sales than the Air. In other words, Lucid needs an SUV, and the Gravity, expected to arrive early next year, is the model in question. After months of teasers, previews and speculation, the 2025 Lucid Gravity is finally here ready to steal the Tesla Model X‘s lunch money.

But if you’re interested in a truly affordable Lucid Gravity, you’ll need to wait until late next year. Lucid will begin production of the most expensive model first, the Grand Touring, which pumps out 800 combined horsepower and offers more than 440 miles of range. A true seven-seater, three-row performance SUV, the Gravity GT can launch to 60 MPH from a standstill in less than 3.5 seconds, Lucid says. It kicks off at a $94,900 starting price.
Later down the line, Lucid will introduce the considerably more affordable Gravity Touring model, which, according to the carmaker, will kick off at $79,900. That’s identical to a Tesla Model X. The good news for this model is that it’ll be eligible for EV tax credits because, one, the Gravity will be built in Arizona and, two, its price will be below the $80,000 price cap for trucks, vans and SUVs. From Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson:
There is a growing anticipation for Lucid Gravity’s unprecedented combination of versatility, performance, design, and all-around capability. This is uniquely enabled through our revolutionary technology. We look forward to bringing the world’s most advanced SUV to the world soon.
Lucid says that orders for the entire Gravity lineup will open on November 7th at 9 am PST (6 am EST), with current Lucid owners given the priority to take delivery of their example. Production is scheduled to start before the end of the year. As for us, we’re looking forward to getting our hands on a press unit to review. We reckon the Lucid Gravity will be a serious threat not just to Tesla, but to other premium three-row SUVs in the EV space, like the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, the Volvo EX90 and the upcoming Cadillac Vistiq.
