The Toyota GR Supra is a rare breed these days, with the Japanese automaker opting for a turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine over a turbo or twin-turbo four-cylinder. The base Tesla Model 3 is the only model to feature standard rear-wheel drive and hits 60 miles per hour in just 4.9 seconds. Thanks to its rear-wheel drive, however, the base Long Range model has the highest single-charge range of the three, and is the only Model 3 to have over 350 miles of range. While it likely won’t be cheap, it’s important to keep in mind that the Tesla Model 3 Long Range and Performance models come backed by an eight-year or 120,000-mile battery and drive unit warranty. That’s a significantly longer period from the standard gas-powered vehicle’s five-year or 60,000-mile powertrain warranty. Tesla also guarantees at least a minimum 70-percent battery capacity or the battery will be replaced free of charge.

When it comes to the actual cost of replacing a Tesla Model 3’s battery, the cost seems to vary. The battery itself can be brand new or refurbished and range from around $7,000 to $12,000. Labor costs vary by geographic location, but tend to run around $500. For reference, the cost to replace a Toyota GR Supra’s engine runs between $8,000 and $15,000.

The Tesla Model 3 Requires Regular Maintenance

While the Tesla Model 3 doesn’t have an engine, it still needs to be serviced at specific intervals. The A/C desiccant bag needs to be replaced every four years, and the brake fluid should be checked every four years. The brake calipers should be cleaned and lubricated every year or 12,500 if exposed to road salt. Finally, the tires should be rotated every 6,250 miles.
